FIND THE COLORS THAT BELONG TOGETHER.
Pixel Art Palette Generator
A handful of colors can change the whole picture. Pull a palette from your image, hold onto your favorites and see a new version take shape.

Your image. A smaller set of colors.
Extract the exact opaque reference colors from a small sprite, or reduce an image to 2–32 colors. Lock colors you want to keep, then preview the picture mapped to your palette. Export the colors as HEX text, a GIMP GPL file or a one-pixel-high palette PNG.
- Upload an image or try the sample. Reduced mode works from a preview up to 512 pixels on the long side.
- Choose a color limit and lock colors using the swatches. A custom locked color can also be added. Exact mode reads the original image, up to 1 megapixel, and exports up to 512 colors.
- Review the recolored preview, then download a HEX list, GPL palette, palette PNG or the recolored image.
For a new image-based design, start with the pixel art maker. For a full-size mosaic, use Pixelate image.
BEFORE YOU MAKE
Your project questions.
What is the difference between reduced and exact mode?
Reduced mode samples an image to at most 512 pixels on the long side and builds a smaller palette. Exact mode counts the original pixels, with a 1-megapixel input limit, and does not merge similar RGB colors.
What happens to transparent pixels?
Pixels with less than 50% opacity are skipped. Other partial transparency is blended on white before extracting or mapping colors. The palette is therefore an opaque reference palette, not a list of distinct RGBA tuples.
Can I keep a particular color?
Yes. Lock a swatch or add a custom HEX color in reduced mode. Locked colors count toward the color limit. Unlock colors before choosing a limit smaller than the number of locked colors.
Why did exact mode find hundreds of colors?
JPEG compression, antialiasing and screenshots introduce near-duplicate colors. Exact mode reports them separately. More than 512 colors requires reduced mode rather than a silently truncated export.
Which formats can I download?
HEX is plain text, GPL is a GIMP-style palette, and the palette PNG places each color in one pixel across a single row. Reduced mode also exports the recolored preview as PNG.
Does it use a shared palette library?
No. Palettes are extracted from your image and the colors you lock. It does not download, copy or redistribute another artist’s palette collection.
