A plain banner supplies the background. Each loom application adds one colored pattern on top of it, up to six layers in this reference. Ordinary shapes need a banner and dye; the ten special designs also require a reusable pattern item.
These counts and item requirements are pinned to Java Edition 1.21.11. That matters for the brick and indented-border designs, whose requirements differ in older editions. This page uses original schematic drawings, with simplified special charges. See the version, registry and source notes for the exact reference.

BEFORE YOU MAKE
The phrase can mean a shape selected in the loom or a special item that unlocks a charge or design. This reference separates ordinary loom shapes from designs that require a pattern item.
There are 42 selectable patterns for the pinned Java Edition 1.21.11 reference: 32 ordinary shapes and 10 designs requiring special items. The plain banner base is not counted as a pattern layer. Different versions or editions may differ.
Place a banner, a dye and the special banner pattern item into a loom, then take the resulting banner. The dye colors the design. Pattern items are reusable; ordinary shapes do not need a special item.
In the Java Edition 1.21.11 reference used here, both require special banner pattern items. Field Masoned is crafted with paper and a Bricks block; Bordure Indented uses paper and a vine. Requirements differ in older versions.
In the pinned Java Edition 1.21.11 loot tables, Flow is an ominous vault reward and Guster is a vault reward in trial chambers. This reference uses that version’s data rather than older articles.
Yes. The banner letters tool provides original A–Z recipes using ordinary shapes. Apply the layers in order and use background-colored masks where required. The reference on this page shows individual shapes, rather than a custom layer editor.
No. Every preview is an original simplified schematic. Special charges are approximations, and Thing uses a text placeholder instead of a Mojang emblem. Consult the game for the exact appearance.
