A pixel art upscaler starts with artwork that is already made of pixels. This tool repeats each source pixel by a whole-number scale, preserving its color and transparency. It is useful for sprites, game previews, presentation images and crisp reference sheets.

  1. Upload a pixel-art PNG, or try the built-in sample. PNG keeps transparency and avoids JPEG compression artifacts.
  2. Choose a whole-number scale from 2× to 16×. Check the exact output width and height before downloading.
  3. Compare the original and enlarged image, then save the PNG. The maximum output is 16 megapixels, with neither edge over 8,192 pixels.

For a new image-based design, start with the pixel art maker. For a full-size mosaic, use Pixelate image.

BEFORE YOU MAKE

Your project questions.

Does this use AI?

No. Nearest-neighbor scaling copies each pixel into an exact square block. It does not infer detail, change the palette or sharpen the drawing.

Can I upscale pixel art without blur?

Yes. Whole-number scales keep pixel widths consistent and this tool does not blend adjacent colors. A 16×16 image at 4× becomes 64×64 pixels.

Is this a photo-to-pixel-art converter?

No. Use the pixel art maker for photo conversion. This page enlarges an existing image without reducing its colors or changing its pixel grid.

Will a transparent PNG stay transparent?

Yes. Each pixel’s original RGBA values are repeated, including partial transparency. PNG export preserves the alpha channel.

Can I upload an animated GIF?

A GIF is opened as a still frame. This version exports a single PNG and does not upscale animations.

Why is a scale unavailable for my image?

An output over 16 megapixels or 8,192 pixels on either side would use too much browser memory. Choose a smaller scale or source image.
